These F7A and F7B units have been around for over ten years. They are robust but a bit noisy. The "A" units pull well. The "B" units have only been made as dummy units and there is a dummy "A" unit also available. Several modellers have converted the B units to powered B's. It requires a fair bit of scrapping on the inside of the B shell to reduce it side wall to fit the A powered chassis. Because of its gearing this engine will not run in multiples with other Micro Trains engines.

Micro Trains Z-scale GP35 in CPRail action red pacman scheme. Nice mechanism and I have use several to repower my Nn3 doodlebugs replacing the original F7 chassis. Very quiet and smooth running. It will run in multiples the GP9 from Micro Trains.

This is actually the second plastic shell Z-scale locomotive ever produce and it was made completely by Rogue Locomotive Works from a milled brass chassis and Faulhaber motor. There were rumors that the chassis came from Ajin in Japan but this is incorrect. It is a GP38 and I have added a plow to the front. I was never able to purchase to original locomotive complete but over the years I was able to purchase a chassis as parts in a plastic bag and later a shell and the hand rails come from Reynard Wellman of MicroArt. The railings were available in Stainless and brass versions. I lost the Stainless front railing and replaced it with the brass version.

American Z Line F59ph Plastic diesel made by Ajin of Japan for AZL. Very nice runner and ready for DCC with a pocket in the body casting for a decoder.

American Z Lines (AZL) plastic shell SD75I in Z-scale and tractions tires are a first on this model. Full pilot with plow and body mounted couplers were an option the modeller could switch to when the model was received. There was only one pilot and plow with the locomotive but a second pilot could be obtained to allow for body mounting of the coupler at either end of the locomotive.

Available now in either Pennsy or UP from American Z Lines is z-scale GP7.

From Micro Trains July 2007 the first GP9 in Northern Pacific colours was released by Micro Trains Lines in July 2007. In August it was CN sergeant stripes and in 2 road numbers too.

Reported to be available as first issue in June 2008 from Micro Trains SD40-2. This was been delayed toAugust September of 2009. It has now been delivered Sept 2009.

These are the 2007 Christmas Tree ornaments from Hallmark Cards depicting Lionel trains O-gauge or 027-gauge models made by Lionel in the past. These are Z-scale in size and will fit on 6.5mm rail. They can be converted to operate as Z-scale passenger equipment which is good  as there is very little available in this scale. I will do a page on the conversion process in the future.  see next page

Here we have the 2006 Hallmark Cards Lionel Series Christmas Ornaments powered and running on my layout. The chassis is Micro Trains GP35 with dummy truck and pilot in front and dummy truck and porch on rear plus the tender was modified by replacing the wheels it came with, with those from Fox Vallye Models with the face of  the wheel filed flat. We added MTL 905 couplers front and rear on both pieces. We drilled out the headlight hole and placed a piece of fibre optic in the opening to bring the headlight through from the chassis.

Here is a video of this engine at work
This is the 2010 offering from Hallmark in the Lionel series. It is UP's M10000 1938 Streamliner. I have not powered it yet but we are working on it.
No all years are the ornaments close to Z scale in size. One person said they were Hallmark Ornament Box size. Most are close to N-scale in size.
In later 2010 Micro Trains lost their Chinese manufacturer and so their road bed track started to dry up and their supply of SD40-2s and Geep 9 and 35 also. However in March came news of the reintroduction of F7A and F7B again however with no changes just new paint schemes. The promised E8 has been delayed to late in 2011 now but micro Trains says they have a new Chinese manufacturer and are trying to get them up to speed quickly.
IN January of 2011 AZL released their RD1 and 2 in various paint schemes at a list price of 166.00 which was a very welcome addition to Z and announced their Heavy and Light USRA Mikados (2-8-2) with tender drive in Z and very nice looking valve gear following the trend of Tenshodo for better detailed steam. No delivery date givenexcept late 2011 and no price given as yet.
