HISTORY of the list This list is open to any modeller who wishes to join the discussion group. Garth Hamilton
of Ontario, Canada, Tim Mulina of St. Louis, Missouri, USA and Rick Blanchard of California, USA moderate the list, Rick is also the list owner.
The list was started about 1995 and
was hosted by on an American East Cpast University server until mid 1997 when our host moved away from the University and we
lost the use of the mail server. The current list was started in December 1997 with 46 members initially from five
countries hosted by Garth Hamilton on his local ISP in St. Catharines, Ontario. By the early spring of 2000, the list had grown
to more than 200 participants from 20 countries, on four continents, 36 US states and 7 Canadian Provinces. In
March of 2000 the list was moved from the ISP in St. Catharines, Ontario. to Onelist.com and was operational starting
March 17th 2000 in the new location. The new list server had a lot of features
available that were not available on the server at Garth's ISP and the service
was free. At start up on Onelist, there were 84 members who transferred from the old
server. Onelist.com was purchased by eGroups in the fall of 2000 and in January 2001 eGroups.com was purchased
by Yahoo.com and this is where the list resides today. On January 01, 2002 there were over 300 members on the list.
In the summer of 2004 the membership has hit 500 on several occasions. In late
2006 there were over 700 on the list.

The current Yahoo List netiquette
The Nn3 List on Yahoo Groups is limited to receiving postings from members only, this means
that you have to send messages from your subscribed address only and no other address will work unless you describe
alternate posting addresses in your yahoo profile. Or you can do multiple subscriptions and set one to send you
mail leaving the others set for "Web Only".
Attachments are stripped from the mail as we do not wish
to pass viruses, Trojan horses and other such nasities to our friends. We strongly urge you to set your own e-mail program options
in your Yahoo profile to send only text mail, not HTML mail. We also strongly suggest that you set your options
in your own e-mail program to send text only e-mail. This does two things for you. It eliminates your exposure to viruses that are using HTML code hooks from infecting your
computer, coming via Yahoo as the e-mail arrives in text mode only. It also eliminates the big and bright HTML banner ads
that appear on HTML mail and are inserted by Yahoo Groups to pay for our free
service and can not be turned off any other way from becoming a bother. In text mode these appear as text only at the end of the
message and you quickly learn to ignore them. It also protects everyone else on
the list from receiving inadvertently viruses from your computer should it
become infected.
This is an open discussion group so all replies to mail sent from the list are set to reply via the list rather than to the author of the message.
There are file areas where you can post pictures files
or databases you wish to share with other members and there are other features
also on yahoo groups.
You can list Nn3 things for-sale or wanted at any time. Things which are not Nn3 related can not be included in these posting. Buildings are N-Scale so they would be
used on narrow gauge also so they are allowed, but N-scale engines and roll stock are not.
Be courteous, if you have problem with something on the list bring it to the List owner:

and we will discuss the pro and cons of the problem and decide what has to be done and any censuring will be done off list with the parties involved. Flame wars will result in all offending
parties being removed from the list.
To participate in the discussion, post files, and be a full and active member you need to have filled out your Yahoo Profile with at a minimum your name first and
last and your City/County of residence plus state/province/country. You can mark your profile as private so people can not view it but it will post your name and location in the members list.
The other alternative is to sign your e-mail with your name first and last and your City/County of residence and
State/Province/Country. We do not accept e-mail from members using
screen/stage names if their profile is not visible on the members list showing the above minimum information. Continued anonymous e-mails will get you gagged, creating a new account and
continuing to send anonymous e-mails will get you banned.
If you wish to be anonymous then you can monitor the group in silence we do not mind,
but you can not participate in discussions unless you follow the rules about
participation. Being anonymous still gives you access to all the resources, without restriction if you follow the
rules about full participation.
