Two narrow gauge box cars, the one on the left is from Micro Trains and the one on the right is from Nelson Grey. Micro Trains purchase the
Nelson Grey molds when Nelson retired. Biggest difference that is visible is the brake wheel. Micro trains retooled so the trucks are better. the body and under frame appear largely
unchanged. This same body is produced in Z-scale as a standard gauge double sheathed wood box car, both versions come with body mounted couplers. |

Narrow
gauge box cars, produced in 2003 and part of 2004 by Mike Chenoweth.
These kits are of the 3000 series of cars used on the D&RGW. It was a
premium kit with quality castings etched stainless hardware sheet and
decals for detailing the car. This car is now available from
Republic Locomotive
Works. |

Narrow
gauge flat cars, top photo shows Nn3 flat from Nelson Grey on the left.
In the center a heavy lift flat car made form 2 Nelson Grey flat cars.
The right hand car is a low boy typically used on modern narrow gauge
operations to move a bulldozer around the work on the right of way. I
used two Nelson Grey flats to build this car. |

These are
the new (Aug 2005) 40 ft Z-scale log cars from MTL. They can be modified
for use as Nn3 30ft log cars by changing the trucks to Nn3 trucks (961
or 962) and body mounting a 905 coupler. As supplied they are equipped
with 955's (archbar truck with mounted coupler for z-scale) Top photo
are on the right the original MTL car as issued. On the left is the one
modified for Nn3. 2nd photo shows the MTL N-scale 30ft standard gauge
log car. It is just sitting on the Nn3 trucks as the body beam is too
wide to inside the back to back distance of Nelson Grey Nn3 truck. The
load looks a bit small but would be quite acceptable for telephone poles
or pulp and plywood logs from tree farm operation.
(see rollingstock-p3 for cross reference to new MTL part numbers) |

Narrow gauge tank car, on the right from Micro Trains, and on the left a Nelson Grey original. The Micro Trains car is actually a
Z-scale standard gauge car, I do not remember MTL releasing this car as a Nn3 car. |

together and placed on a Nelson Grey under frame. |

Narrow gauge shorty caboose, on the left from an RLW kit patterned after RGS 22 ft caboose. On the right is a Bachmann old time caboose
four wheel caboose for standard gauge N-scale which was modified to make it narrower and to put standard narrow gauge trucks under it. |
